A founder is born

I started The Perimenopause Society after years of navigating hormonal shifts that quietly upended my quality of life — and finding very few real answers along the way. I've been fortunate: my OB/GYN has given me her time and empathy, and every option available to her. But not every woman is so lucky. Too many are met with guesswork, trial and error, and the sense of being dismissed or unheard during one of the most disorienting transitions of their lives.

My Story

I'm 46, and a mother of two. My daughter is about 20 years out from this same phase of life. I don't want her to face the same uphill battle I have — piecing together answers on her own, with no clear diagnostic path and no clear plan of care.

Women have navigated this transition for generations without real answers — not because it wasn't worth studying, but because women's health was left out of medical research for decades. That gap in research became a gap in care. And it meant generations of women missed out on something we now know matters: treatment during perimenopause doesn't just ease symptoms, it protects how well a woman ages and how healthy her decades ahead look.

This isn't the first gap I've felt compelled to close. I earned an MS in Health Promotion Management from American University in 2006, and my career since has centered on prevention and whole-person wellness — helping people optimize their health and quality of life, not just treat disease after the fact. Perimenopause is the starkest example I've found of that gap: a life stage where early, proactive care could protect a woman's health for decades, yet the system still waits until something is visibly wrong.

Women's health is finally getting real investment and attention, and I don't want to wait for someone else to build what I know is needed. Our first step is helping validate a symptom tracker and biomarker that can flag when perimenopause treatment should begin — not months into guesswork, but early enough to capture those protective, long-term benefits. It's one concrete piece of a much larger goal: closing the diagnosis and treatment gap in women's midlife health, for good.
